Oh, Gawd...

LDS Church treats men and women as equals? Really?
Do I really need to comment on this? Didn't think so.

I remember a couple years ago my parents were asked to speak in sacrament meeting on some subject or other. When it came time to speak they decided to switch their speaking order so my mother spoke last instead of my father, deciding their subjects made more sense if given that way; never thinking it was that big a deal.

The bishop announced the first speaker as my mother. My father went to the pulpit instead and explained the reason he was going first, only to get a somber scowl and head-shake from the bishop. Embarrassed, my father sat down and my mother got up to give her talk instead.

The reason it was so important to embarrass my parents that way, the bishop later told them, was because THE PRIESTHOOD ALWAYS NEEDS TO HAVE THE LAST WORD.

Ever notice that the final speaker in General Relief Society Meeting or General Young Women Meeting is always a man? How odd is that, considering they are meetings for WOMEN?!

Fuck this. It's PR.
