A Mormon Speaks About Prop 8 in Church

If one has not experienced, nor given, one's last testimony of the church they once held dear one cannot understand the courage that this took.

When he would not be silent, they turned off the microphone and then escorted him out. No question eyes rolled and judgments were made and he was mocked and pitied behind his back.

But he was brave enough to speak HIS truth. Which is so much more than most can say.

Thank you for sharing this Chino.

How disgusting for them to censor people. Unsurprising, but disturbing and creepy.

Wow...that took an amazing amount of courage. May he stand tall for his truth.

What if all members who felt the same had the courage to stand and speak out in testimony meeting? I believe there are many thousands within the church who do feel this way. What would the leaders do if these members took the stand on fast Sunday and spoke their truth? Can you imagine the fallout of that? The constant disruption of fast and testimony meetings worldwide. It would certainly make headlines and reveal the internal conflict among the members on the matter.

I wonder what it would take to organize something like that? The church has never experienced such a thing. A grassroots internal uprising that, if enough members took part in, would shake the church to its core. A rebellion in the LDS church. Wow. Perhaps the seed of that idea could start here, today on this blog.

I would have paid to be in that Ward that day. And for me that's saying something, trust me.

It has to start with one person. Kudos to him...I'm sitting here with goosebumps. Thank you for posting this.

AWESOME. After a lot of friction with my family over Prop 8, I've kept my blog mostly controversy-free, but I think I might have to post this. I have no desire to ever set foot in a Mormon church again, but I'm with foundinidaho - I think I would have given good money to be there.

Church leaders gave talks over the pulpit telling members that if they did not vote for Prop 8, they were supporting Satan's Plan. How wrong it is, and a deep contradiction to the principle of life and Free Agency, to not have the right to make a different choice or opinion than Church Leaders. These days, members of the Church are not just being told to Use their Free Agency, but are being told how to use it correctly. And if you read the scriptures, Satan didn't really have a plan. He just wanted the credit.

I no longer am a member of the church, and 3 years ago, came out as a lesbian. I hope those who are considering leaving the church, will take the leap and do it. It isn't easy, because there can be loss of structure, and family and friends...

yet, there is a whole world of truth out there. We can navigate our journey with our own hearts and minds.
